The object of verification is the measuring device of compulsory verification specified in the metrology law of our country.

Article 9 of the law on metrology of the People's Republic of China stipulates clearly: "the metrological administrative department of the people's governments at or above the county level for public standards of measurement devices, departments and enterprises and institutions to use the highest standards of measurement, and for trade settlement, safety protection, medical and health care, environmental monitoring of the work of strong inspection directory, measuring instruments subject to compulsory verification. Those who fail to apply for verification as prescribed or fail to pass the verification shall not be used."

Therefore, the objects of verification are mainly three categories of measuring instruments:

1. Standards of measurement (including international [measurement] standards and national [measurement] standards) National [measurement] benchmark: "a benchmark of measurement recognized by an official decision of the state as the basis for valuing all other standards of measurement of the quantity concerned in the country.

ISO 1OO12 -- 1 defines the "measurement" standard as: "A physical measure, measuring instrument, reference material or system used to define, implement, maintain or reproduce a unit or one or more known quantity values and pass them on to other measuring instruments by comparison" (example: a) a 1kg mass standard; B) standard gauge block; C) 1 o0 Ω standard resistance; D) weston standard battery)."

3. According to China's metrology law and the detailed list of working measuring instruments subject to compulsory verification of the People's Republic of China, "compulsory verification shall be carried out for those used in trade settlement, safety protection, medical and health care and environmental monitoring". In this detailed catalogue, has specified more than 60 kinds of measuring instruments to be listed as compulsory verification range. It is worth noting that the second paragraph of the detailed catalogue clearly emphasizes that "all items in this catalogue used for trade settlement, safety protection, medical and health care and environmental monitoring shall be subject to mandatory verification." This is required to list more than 60 kinds of measuring instruments in the directory of strong inspection, only for trade settlement and other four categories of measuring instruments, belong to the scope of mandatory verification. Although it is listed in the catalogue of more than 60 measuring instruments, it does not fall into the scope of compulsory verification for measuring instruments which are not used in the four fields of trade settlement.

Measuring devices other than the above three categories belong to the scope of non-mandatory verification, that is, calibration.
